Biography

The requirement of art education has been questioned by Jechul for the past decades.  The questioning began at early age as he recognized the difference between learned and gifted artists.

In 1992, Jechul was very much involved in painting and experimental studies in theater design.  It is this time that an opportunity to attend one of the well recognized art school in the states; jechul declined this offer to study medicine.

1993 was a slow year for art of painting.   A new life in college dormitory rarely brought much desire to paint.

At the end of that school year, Jechul got an office job and was able to buy his own acrylic paints and brushes.  Many paintings were produced in 1994 and the years that followed.  Jechul's paintings and drawings from this period are spread among Jechul's friends and strangers.  Many experimental paintings were produced in those days with bright colors that seem to bring themselves into the canvas on their own.  Looking back to those days, the colors of the paintings marked the era.  The colours were companied by many variation of bottles left over from nights of bright parties, reminding everyone that the party had come to an end, yet promising cheerful days will follow the empty bottles.

Jechul's college gave him opportunity for him to travel.  Travel got lonesome, but it also gave Jechul much time to think and learn more about oil painting.  He was facinated by the time it takes to work with oil.  The traveling also gave more opportunity for Jechul to visit more galleries and paintings.  Looking at great painting on painting books cannot be compared to the viewing the work live.  When looking at the painting up close, you see the brush strokes and all the secrets and lay between the canvas and the lights and go through the layers of paint that makes the work of art.

Seven years passed since the travelling days ended.  Travelling through work can be tiresome and so counter productive.  Jechul moved to where good paintings pass by frequently and paints occasionally.  He is not a painter by occupation, but he loves to paint and will have a showing of his work in the future.  If you are interested to attend the show, please contact Jechul with your contact information.  He will contact you when the time comes.

Current Project

June 17, 2007: Little Red Lighthouse.  It was a hot day.  I had to drag all my painting equipment to the lighthouse.  Nobody saw what I was painting because I had to paint this painting vertically; my easel wouldn't fit the frame horizontally.  Once I flipped the painting horizontally, the watchful crowd was relieved.

June 17, 2007: Put 2 layers of Matt Varnish on the lady by the sea.  Going to put 1 more coat next weekend.

March 27, 2005: The second layer of skin was applied.  Need to decide what to do next.  I personally like the way it looks, but the painting looks bit unsaturated.  I may leave the painting the way it is.  Sun blessed me today and I was able to take a pretty good photo.

March 20, 2005: The girl by the sea skin tone applied.

Girl by the Sea

March 4, 2005: I think the oil is almost dry now for me to apply the skin tone.  For the past 2 1/2 weeks, I have been waiting patiently...

Feb 22, 2005: It certainly was a late night.  Finally decided to paint the sketch that was produced in 2002.  I am glad in a way, that I have waited.  I hold back on colors these days.  So use to seeing so many colors in my mind, that it is difficult to hold back using my usual colors; result of my own color governance, however, has been providing me great satisfaction with my finished works.

Girl by the Sea

As I was taking a break from it all yesterday, I had a strange revelation for a color mix.  The mix consisted of prussian blue, lamp black and titanium white; let that dry, and put a thin layer of skin tone.  I was awake, until the late hours of the night, completing first tasks for this painting.  I am thinking that this will be my first painting that I am going to sell.  Maybe.  For now, the girl sits, waiting impatiently for her skin tone.
